FAQ for photographers
Are e-signatures legally binding for photo contracts and releases?
Yes. Photography contracts and model/property releases are ordinary agreements that can be signed electronically under the US ESIGN Act and UETA, generally with the same legal effect as signatures on paper — provided the signer intended to sign and the signature is attributable to them. SigFetch records consent, timestamp, IP, and browser and binds them to the signed PDF via a SHA-256 hash and Certificate of Completion — exactly the kind of evidence you want if a usage right is disputed.
What about a model release for a minor?
When the subject is under 18, the release generally needs to be signed by a parent or legal guardian, not the minor. Add the parent or guardian as the signer in SigFetch. Rules vary by state, so if a shoot is commercially sensitive, confirm the requirements for your jurisdiction.
Can someone sign a release on my phone at the shoot?
