FAQ for freelancers
Are e-signatures legally binding for freelance contracts?
In the US, electronic signatures are recognized by the ESIGN Act (federal) and UETA (adopted in 49 states; New York uses its own Electronic Signatures and Records Act). For standard freelance paperwork — service agreements, NDAs, SOWs, MSAs, retainers, work-for-hire — an e-signature is generally treated the same as a wet signature when the signer intends to sign, both parties consent to do business electronically, the signature is attributable to the signer, and the signed record can be retained and accurately reproduced. SigFetch captures explicit signer consent, IP, timestamp, and browser on every signature, and binds them to the signed PDF with a SHA-256 hash and a Certificate of Completion. How will I know when my client has signed?
SigFetch emails you when the envelope completes, and the signed PDF lands in your dashboard. If you want per-signature updates pushed to your own tools, add a webhook: SigFetch fires HMAC-signed webhooks when an envelope is sent, completed, declined, voided, or expired, and when an individual recipient signs.
What if my client disputes the signature later?
Every SigFetch signature records the signer's IP address, browser, timestamp, and explicit consent, and the finished PDF is fingerprinted with a SHA-256 hash bound to a Certificate of Completion that travels with the document. Anyone can re-check a signed file at sigfetch.com/verify — the hash is computed locally in their browser and compared against the audit record, so the evidence doesn't depend on taking SigFetch's word for it.
Can I use SigFetch with international clients?
Yes. There's no geographic restriction on senders or signers. ESIGN and UETA cover the US side; many countries have parallel laws recognizing basic electronic signatures for ordinary commercial contracts — the EU under eIDAS, the UK under its Electronic Communications Act and UK eIDAS Regulations, Canada under provincial electronic-commerce acts, Australia under the Electronic Transactions Act 1999 — with limited exceptions such as wills and certain real-estate transfers. Which law governs your contract comes down to its choice-of-law clause, not to SigFetch.
